Playlist #4: More Mumble-y Mix

Posted every Friday, hear my weekly playlist including some old and some new.  I wanted to share some new sounds compared to my normal posts, so this one is less coffee shop vibes (so Mom, you won’t like this one). Check the post out to hear some stuff from Young Thug, Aminé , Nebu Kinizia and more.

Young Thug, “It’s a Slime”

So Young Thug just released Slime Language today and I’m vibing with a lot of it. Some more than others, as with any album, but this one is one of my favorites also because I love Uzi. Also, fun fact, Young Thug was just arrested for gun possession so let’s see how that works out haha.

Yung Bans, “Let’s Play”

I’ve been obsessed with Yung Bans for awhile now and I don’t see the obsession cooling down anytime soon. This 19-year-old rapper is from Atlanta, Georgia and has been rapping ever since a young kid. He gained a lot of popularity with his SoundCloud release of “4tspoon” with Playboi Carti when he was just 14-years old. I don’t know if it’s because I’m biased or what but I do feel like this kid is growing fast so if you see him featured on a big name project ya know why.

Aminé, “REEL IT IN”

Aminé is best known for his single “Caroline” and his album Good For You. He’s a Portland, Oregon native and I feel like it shouldn’t be surprising when he I say is more left-than-center. He’s featured on a lot of good tracks and was one of ten members of XXL’s 2017 Freshman Class. He just released his new album today called OnePointFive and the whole album is super good so check it out.

Reese LaFlare, “Drip Like That”

Maurice Williams, also known as Reese, is a rapper and producer from Atlanta, Georgia. Reese has been active in music since 2011 with his debut mixtape Reese Vs The World, released on DatPiff (like honestly never heard of his platform until a little ago). Later he went on to release Reese Vs The World 2 in 2012. This track above was shared on July 16th but his full album, Reese LaFlare, was just shared today, with a lineup including Pusha-T, Young Thug, Smokepurpp, and of course Gunna, among others. I think this album really shows his growing sound as an artist.

Nebu Kiniza, “Pressure”

Nebu Kiniza, whose real name is Cory Orville Reid, is a rapper from Queens, New York. A ton of people know him from his most popular song “Gassed Up” back in 2015 but he just released From Me 2 U today, a 12-track EP featuring the one track above. The EP is pretty easy going with pretty smooth melodies and flows. Overall, not a huge fan of the whole EP but this one isn’t bad.

Lucki, “Root of All”

Lucki is a rapper from Chicago and was originally known as Lucki Eck$ but he eventually dropped the Eck$ and just goes by Lucki now. When he was 17, he released one of his first tracks and got pulled up by a lot of big names. Sadly this kid went through some tough shit, battling with drugs and mental health challenges, causing him to drop music for some time. Now he’s 21 and in a way better place getting ready to drop a new project.

Let me know how you like this week’s playlist and if you have suggestions for future playlists!

Caitie Santo

Hi, my name is Caitie Santo. I am a 22-year-old living in Chicago, Illinois. I was born in Fremont, California but later attended school at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. I graduated with a degree in marketing and I am currently working for a business management consulting firm in Chicago.
I was exposed to the arts at a young age, and my appreciation grew as I pursued a professional career in ballet several years ago. Although that career path ended during my first year in college, my experience is still deeply intertwined with how I describe myself, whether it is the music I listen to, the things I do, or the things I wear. I hope to continue developing my artistic expression through the various projects I work on including this blog, where I will share whatever comes to my mind.
